VFR Over the Top
The VFR-OTT Rating allows Private and Commercial Pilots to fly on top of cloud or between layers when operating under visual flight rules. The VFR Over the Top Rating is designed to offer the Private Pilot greater flexibility in cross-country flying. An applicant for the VFR OTT rating shall complete a minimum of 15 hours dual instrument time.
Requirements
a) An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant, or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for the purpose of flight training.
b) An applicant must hold a valid Private Pilot License, issued in Canada or by a contracting state, prior to commencing VFR Over the Top training.
c) An applicant must be a minimum of 17 years of age for the issue of the VFR Over the Top Rating.
d) Minimum hours required are:
i. Minimum of 15 hours of dual instrument.
